Consultancy and advice on creative projects

This is a space for consultancy, accompaniment and support for audiovisual projects that address issues related to the African diaspora in the Americas and the Caribbean. This space, promoted by Ibirí Filmes, an Afro-centered audiovisual production company, arises from the need of many creators, producers, curators, and commissioners to deepen their sociocultural, historical, and anthropological knowledge in order to strengthen their creations and projects. Considering broader possibilities and references when presenting their audiovisual proposals and making available to each project academic, cinematographic, literary, etc. materials, specifically designed to nourish each project in a safe space for Afro-feminist listening and exchange, is one of our unique features.

Afrodiasporic Room was born with the conviction that it is possible to generate narratives that do not have to resort to racist, homophobic or gender-based discrimination, which are so common and recurrent in art in general and in the audiovisual industry in particular. Building stories and proposals that excite, entertain and challenge the audience without resorting to or slipping into discourses committed to the colonialist and supremacist past is a great challenge and for this we put at your disposal a highly qualified team with plenty of experience in these topics, both in the academic and cinematographic fields. Broadening the horizons of each project, collectively feeding each story, maintaining a critical, anti-racist and informed perspective that celebrates, respects and embraces diversity is one of the objectives of this Afrocentric consultancy and advice.

We know that each project has specific needs and that each creator faces various challenges throughout the process. In this sense, we work on demand for each creator or producer, who will inform us of their needs, concerns or weaknesses when building the plot, proposing an audiovisual project, or approaching a specific ethnocultural reality, and we will design a proposal that can address and accompany those expressed needs and concerns in the best possible way.
